Sikh Ritual
Amrit Ceremony: Worship:
After going through the Amrit Ceremony they are now a baptized Sikh
The Ceremony was introduced in 1699
It takes place in the Gurdwara
Hymns are recited
Amrit is prepared
Amrit is a mixture of sugar and water stirred by a double edged sword
It is then poured over the initiate and they have to drink it
Wedding Rituals:
A Sikh marriage is called an Anand Karaj
People who don't confess their faith can't get married
Child marriage is forbidden
You can't get married until you are fully responsible to be married
Most of the marriages happen in the morning
Holy Shabads are sung
Any man who has gone through the Amrit Ceremony can perform a marriage
Sikh's worship to one God and only one God
They wake up and meditate to God
They have a set of prayers that they say in the morning, evening, and before going to bed
Baby Rites:
The first thing a woman does when she finds out she is pregnant is to pray
When the baby is born words of Mool Mantar are whispered in the babies ear
A drop of honey is then poured into the babies mouth
It is customary to visit a temple as soon as physically possible
A passage is read and then a name is chosen with the first letter of the first word in the passage
